Three Hierarches
Saint John Chrysostomos, Vasilios the Great, and Saint Gregorios of Nazianzus, or Saint Gregorios the Theologian, are considered as the great hierarchs and ecumenical teachers of the Orthodox Church, patrons of students and education. The Three Hierarchs were celebrated since the mid-11th century, during the reign of Constantine IX Monomachos or Alexios I Komnenos. Their memory is celebrated on January 30 and symbolizes the Holy Trinity while was celebrated as an educational feast for the first time in 1842. Its official institutionalization of the celebration took place much later, in 1911.
